Police investigate fatal pedestrian crash in St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a crash that killed two pedestrians.

At 8:10 p.m., a 2019 Ram heavy truck traveling west on Central Avenue hit two pedestrians who were crossing Central at 21st Street. The driver of that truck was identified as 50 year-old Michael Parker. Police say the two pedestrians were in the crosswalk at the time they were struck.

Robert Theodore Surprenant Jr., age 61 and Darlene Marie Surpreant, age 61, were transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg in critical condition. 

Unfortunately Robert Surprenant was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital., Darlene was initially listed in critical condition but ultimately died on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Parker was uninjured in the crash.

Parker stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police say that alcohol was not a factor and the investigation is ongoing. 

Central Avenue and 21st St. was shutdown in all directions during the investigation
