St. Petersburg Police and Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle crash on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at approximately 11:30 p.m.
The crash occurred in the 6300 Block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North.
Police say that a Dodge Journey, driven by 37 year-old Anthony Antoine Boyd of St. Petersburg, was southbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North in the median lane and had a front seat passenger of 39 year-old Erick Derrell Johnson of St Petersburg.
For an unknown reason, the Dodge Journey lost control and slid off of the roadway striking a tree.
The driver, Boyd, died at the scene. The passenger, Johnson, was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he is recovering from his injuries.
Police say alcohol was a factor in this crash.
