Police Say Former Mayor of St. Pete Beach Dead Following a Self-Inflicted Injury

Stephen Douglas McFarlin, age 61 of St. Pete Beach, was found dead in what police are saying was a self-inflicted injury.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation after McFarlin was found deceased inside the private residence of his St Pete Beach home.

According to detectives, family members became concerned over the welfare of McFarlin after a lapse of time in communication.  Family members went to the home of McFarlin located at 5396 Gulf Boulevard, St Pete Beach.

McFarlin was found inside of the home deceased by family members. Family members immediately called deputies who responded to the home. McFarlin was confirmed deceased at the scene by deputies at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018

Detectives say it appears McFarlin died of a self-inflicted injury and his death does not appear suspicious.

Next of kin has been notified.

McFarlin served as Mayor of St. Pete Beach from 2011 to 2014.

The investigation continues.
