Bicyclist critically injured in crash on Bryan Diary Road near US-19

Officers from the Pinellas Park Police Department continue to investigate a serious injury crash on Bryan Dairy Road west of US Highway 19 N. The crash involves a vehicle and an electric bicycle and occurred on Monday, August 23rd, 2021, at approximately 6:45 a.m.

The bicyclist, 36 year-old Kandice Hamel of Bradenton, was transported to the trauma center at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with critical injuries.

Investigators learned a white Dodge Durango, operated by a 45 year-old male from Tampa, was traveling west on Bryan Dairy Rd, west of US Highway 19 N when a bicyclist crossed the center median and into the vehicle’s path.

When the two collided, the bicyclist was thrown from the electric bike causing severe injuries. The driver of the Dodge Durango remained on-scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police say that neither speed nor impairment were a factor in this crash. All lanes of Bryan Dairy Rd have reopened to traffic. No other information is expected to be released.
