Serious Injury Crash Involving a Stolen Vehicle in St. Petersburg

Two teens were injured in a crash this morning in St. Petersburg at approximately 11:23 a.m. in the 4000 Block of 11th Avenue South.

According to St. Petersburg Police, a white 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 14 year-old Myles Abbott was westbound on 11th Avenue South at a high rate of speed. His passenger was identified 15 year-old Alijah Armstead.

While crossing 40th Street South, the car struck a dip in the roadway and Abbott lost control of the vehicle. It left the roadway and struck a large tree.

Due to the extensive damage, both Abbott and Armstead had to be extricated from the vehicle by St Petersburg Fire Rescue. They were both transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg, Abbott with serious injuries and Armstead with life threatening injuries.

During the course of the investigation of the crash it was discovered that the Camaro was reported stolen.

At this time criminal charges are pending further investigation.
