The shooting took place at about 9:35pm on Wednesday, January 1, 2014.  The TownePlace Suites is located at 13200 49th Street.  The original call was received by the Pinellas Park Fire Department for reports of a fire alarm at the hotel.  Additional callers reported the one or more subjects were injured during a shooting.

Pinellas Park Police Department arrived and found two individual each with a single gunshot wound to the head.  The shooter has been identified as 29 year-old Anthony McClaney Jr.  Mr. McClaney was declared a trauma alert on-scene and transported to a local trauma center.  His condition is unknown at this time.  Mitchell Arnold, a 48 year-old male, died from this injuries at the site of the shooting.

According to Pinellas Park Police, Mr. McClaney entered the room where his mother and fiance were staying.  He pulled out a handgun and shot Mr. Arnold once in the head killing him.  Mr. McClaney then turned to his mother stating that he was going to be with Jesus before shooting himself.

There was some mention that Mr. McClaney has a history of mental illness and the family was not aware of how he came in possession of a firearm.

The family has been staying at this hotel since December 18th since their home was reportedly damaged during a structure fire.

The investigation continues.
