St. Petersburg Bank Robber Nabbed on PSTA Bus
St. Petersburg Police arrested a man after he robbed the Suntrust Bank at 3100 Central Avenue.
At 2:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017, the St. Petersburg Police Department received notification of a silent holdup alarm from the Suntrust Bank at 3100 Central Avenue.
While patrol officers were en route, the bank confirmed they had been robbed. The robber had passed a note to a bank teller demanding money. The robber was given an undisclosed amount of cash and left the bank on foot.
Officers arrived on scene at 3:02 p.m. One of the officers immediately went to the PSTA bus terminal located at 3180 Central Avenue and began checking for the bank robber.
She was able to view a subject matching the description of the bank robber seated in the back of one of the buses preparing to leave the terminal.
Additional officers arrived and they boarded the bus. The subject was identified as the bank robber and taken into custody without incident.
The stolen money was stuffed inside the front of his underwear and recovered.
The bank robber has been identified as 42 year-old Robert Lee Johnson.
He has other aliases which include John Williams.
