PINELLAS PARK — A St. Petersburg man faces capital sexual battery charges after a 12-year-old girl gave birth at a local park on Thursday night, according to the Pinellas Park Police Department.
Officers responded to Helen Howarth Park, located at 6301 94th Avenue North, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 16, 2026, following reports that a child had been born. Both the newborn and the 12-year-old mother were transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Police reported that both mother and child are healthy and continuing to receive care.
Due to the victim’s age, detectives immediately opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy. According to investigators, the juvenile mother was unaware she was pregnant. During subsequent interviews, she disclosed to detectives that she had been subjected to multiple incidents of sexual battery and molestation over the past year by her uncle at a residence in Pinellas Park.
On July 17 at approximately 11:00 p.m., police located the suspect, identified as 61-year-old Delfin Back, at his residence in St. Petersburg and took him into custody without incident. Back was transported and booked into the Pinellas County Jail on capital sexual battery charges.
Pursuant to Florida Statute 119.071(2)(h)1c, authorities are withholding the identity of the victim due to her age and the severity of the offense.
