St. Petersburg Man Charged with Murder Following Girlfriend’s Stabbing Death

On March 13, 2024, detectives arrested a St. Petersburg man for murder after learning he stabbed his girlfriend multiple times.

According to detectives, on March 9, 2024, deputies assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau responded to reports of a suicidal subject at 2790 62nd Avenue North Unit B, in Unincorporated St. Petersburg. The 911 caller stated that 50-year-old Nafa Secic stabbed herself and was deceased.

When deputies arrived on scene, they located Secic deceased in her bedroom, with apparent stab wounds to her chest and abdomen. While on scene, deputies spoke to Secic’s boyfriend, 53-year-old Rifet Redzic. He told detectives he was sleeping, and when he woke up, he witnessed Secic go to the kitchen and retrieve a knife before returning to their bedroom where she began stabbing herself. Redzic told detectives he attempted to stop Secic but was unsuccessful.

During the investigation, detectives located an additional stab wound on Secic’s back. Redzic provided detectives with several inconsistent statements about what had occurred. The investigation revealed that Redzic stabbed Secic multiple times, and the wounds were not self-inflicted.

When detectives interviewed Redzic, he initially maintained the claim that Secic stabbed herself, but then continued to provide detectives with inconsistent statements. Redzic eventually admitted to stabbing Secic in the back, but maintained the other stab wounds were self-inflicted.

Detectives arrested Redzic and charged him with one count of First-Degree Murder. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
