ST. Petersburg — St. Petersburg Police detectives have filed additional child abuse charges against two suspects already arrested in connection with the death of a one-month-old child.
Gabriella Daniels, 22, and Ashton Kurant, 21, are now facing new charges related to the abuse of a second child in their care.
According to investigators, the additional charges include:
- Aggravated Child Abuse (unlawful caging)
- Neglect (environmental hazards)
The new allegations involve a 15-month-old girl who was also under the couple’s care. Detectives say the child suffered significant diaper rashes and sores on her legs and feet after being kept in a playpen for extended periods. Authorities reported the home was in unsanitary condition, with the child’s mattress soaked in urine and containing live insects.
Police say the child has since been removed from the home and is now receiving care in a safe environment.
Daniels and Kurant were initially arrested on April 16, 2026, on charges of Aggravated Child Abuse and Child Neglect related to a one-month-old boy. The infant was transported to a hospital for treatment last week, where he later died.
During the investigation, detectives determined the infant had bruising along his hairline and multiple lacerations across his body.
The investigation remains ongoing.
