St. Petersburg police arrest driver following fatal hit and run crash involving a bicyclist

St. Petersburg Police have arrested the man they say was involved in a fatal hit and run crash that killed a bicyclist.

Investigators say that at 9:46 a.m., on Wednesday, September 23, the bicyclist 49 year-old Earnest Jenkins was southbound on the west side of Dr. MLK Street South. He continued riding through the red light at 22nd Avenue South, and struck the side of an SUV that was eastbound with the green light.

Jenkins was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with critical injuries. On Thursday, Jenkins died of his injuries.

The driver of the SUV, 60 year-old Donald Davis of St. Petersburg, did not stop at the scene of the crash.

Traffic homicide investigators identified and located the SUV driver. On Thursday, Davis was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving while license suspended/canceled/revoked.
