Detectives from the St. Petersburg Police Department are currently on scene investigating two fatal shootings.

Around 3:20 this morning, St. Petersburg Police received a call from a woman who said her husband had been shot while they were sleeping inside a home in the 1000th block of 13th Ave South.  Shortly after police and paramedics arrived 34 year-old Lorenzo Brunson was pronounced deceased.

Detectives have arrested 32 year-old Anthony Bridges and charged him with 1st Degree Murder in this morning’s shooting death of Lorenzo Brunson.

Bridges and Brunson were known to each other and had an argument yesterday (August 5, 2019).  Investigators believe Bridges returned to the home and shot Brunson several times in retaliation.  The case is still very active and additional charges may be pending

Roughly an hour and 20 minutes following the call for the first shooting at 4:42am, police received several calls about shots fired in the 1200 block of 10th Ave South.

Police found 39 year-old William Gilbert suffering from gunshot wounds in the street.  He was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigations into both shootings is underway.  At this time detectives do not know whether the two cases are connected or coincidentally happened within a short distance and time of each other.
