St. Petersburg Police investigating after two seriously injured in motorcycle crash

The St. Petersburg Police are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred at approximately 11:49 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019. The crash occurred on 38th Avenue N at 40th Street.

Police say a 2015 Ford Mustang, driven by 19 year-old male, was facing southbound on 40th Street and stopped at a stop sign at 38th Avenue North.

A 2016 Honda 1000RR motorcycle, driven by 23 year-old Michael Burroughs, was traveling westbound on 38th Avenue North at a very high rate of speed. Mackenzie Leigey, age 19, was Burroughs’ passenger on the motorcycle.

The motorist attempted to cross 38th Avenue North and was struck on the rear
of his vehicle by the motorcycle.

Burroughs and Leigey were thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious bodily injuries. Both were transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where they are being treated for their injuries.

This crash is still under investigation and expected updates will be posted here at iontb.com. Charges are pending.
