St. Petersburg Police Investigating an Early Morning Fatal Shooting

St. Petersburg Police Officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017. The incident occurred in the 1400 block of 12th Street S.
Detectives continue to investigate the shooting death.
Preliminary information from detectives indicates that 25 year-old Tyrone Walker was visiting a relative and got into an altercation with an armed man who arrived at the home.
During the altercation, Walker shot the other man, identified as 39 year-old Jay Powell. He then called police and waited at the scene until investigators arrived to provide a statement. All other details are under investigation.
Records indicate that Walker was released from the Florida Department of Corrections in 2014 for charges related to drug trafficking in Pinellas County.
Police say that charges against Walker are pending at this time as the investigation continues.
