Firefighters from Largo Fire Rescue responded along with the Largo Police Department to reports of a structure fire at the Monterey Lake Apartment Complex located at 7501 Ulmerton Road at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020.
Arriving units reported smoke and flames showing from an upstairs apartment (#1726).
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and were able to locate an unconscious dog. Crews administered CPR to the dog for quite some time before it was loaded into a Largo Police Department vehicle. The officer transported the dog to a nearby emergency veterinarian.
The male occupant of the apartment was evaluated by paramedics on-scene and was awaiting the arrival of the American Red Cross.
The fire reportedly was confined to the kitchen and the investigation continues.
IONTB has received information that the dog died despite the efforts.
