Tampa Police arrest two during protest in SoHo district

Tampa Police arrested two people in connection with an incident that occurred on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 during a protest on Howard Avenue between Azeele and Horatio Street.

Police say that a crowd of several dozen people marched through SoHo on the roadway and periodically blocked traffic on the road. A driver in a Jeep attempted to go around the crowd on the sidewalk, and was blocked by the group and another person driving a blue truck who was part of the large crowd.

As the driver in the blue truck took off, the driver in the Jeep attempted to go around a white Kia that was also blocking her.

As the Jeep drove forward, the driver in the Kia intentionally hit the side of the Jeep.

Officers responded to the scene.

The driver in the Kia was taken into custody for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

A second person was arrested for obstructing the investigation.

Updates will be provided as they become available. The investigation is ongoing.
