Tampa Police Arrest File Vehicular Homicide Charges After Racing Led to the Death of a Mom and Her Daughter Attempting to Cross Bayshore Blvd
Tampa Police continue to investigate a vehicle crash that killed a 24 year-old woman and her 21 month-old daughter while attempting to cross Bayshore Blvd.
Three people have been arrested for their role in the crash.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:43 a.m. at Bayshore Blvd and Knights Avenue.
A 2018 black Ford Mustang driven by 18 year-old Cameron Herrin of Tampa was driving northbound on Bayshore Boulevard.
Witnesses said the Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed and was racing another northbound vehicle. Tristan Herrin, age 20, was a passenger in the Mustang.
The other vehicle engaged in the racing was a gold Nissan driven by 17 year-old John Barrineau of Tampa.
Witnesses said that at times the cars were side by side, and at other times they switched places and switched lanes.
The Mustang driven by Cameron Herrin struck the victims who were crossing Bayshore Boulevard near W Knights Avenue.
24 year-old Jessica Raubenolt of Ohio was pushing her 21 month-old daughter, Lillia, in a stroller when they both were struck. The victims were attempting a lawful crossing at a pedestrian ramp at an intersection. Both victims were transported to Tampa General Hospital. Jessica Raubenolt was declared dead at the hospital.
Tampa Police announced Thursday evening that 21-month-old Lillia has died from her
injuries.
With the death of the toddler, the charges against the drivers of the two cars involved in the accident will be upgraded. Instead of facing a charge of reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury for the injuries to the toddler, Cameron Herrin and John Barrineau will face an additional charge of vehicular homicide. They already faced a charge of vehicular homicide in the death of the mother, as well as a misdemeanor charge of street racing.
Tristan Herrin, the passenger in the Mustang, faces a misdemeanor count of racing. The passenger is being charged under Florida Statute 316.191(2), which says that it is illegal for a driver to engage in racing and that it is also illegal to “Knowingly ride as a passenger in any such race, competition, contest, test, or exhibition.”
Northbound traffic on Bayshore was closed between Wallcraft and Bayview during the investigation.
