Tarpon Springs man critically injured in grill explosion

Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue responded to reports of a charcoal grill explosion on 1734 Riverside Drive in Tarpon Springs.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

Upon arrival, first responders located a male with severe burns to 85% of his body surface area.

There was some damage to the outside of the home and porch. Bystanders reported that the neighbor had put the fire out with a garden hose prior to the fire department arrival.

The patient was flown by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital.

The patient was in critical condition.

According to imvestigators, the origin and cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Tarpon Springs Police Department, assisted by the Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosion Investigations (BFAEI).
