A St. Petersburg teenager has died following injuries suffered in a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle earlier this month.
According to investigators, 18-year-old Yaudel Enrique Rosabal Fernandez of St. Petersburg died over the weekend at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg from injuries sustained in the May 9, 2026, crash.
The crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on May 9 in the 3300 block of 38th Avenue North. Investigators say Rosabal Fernandez was riding a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R motorcycle eastbound on 38th Avenue North while a gold Toyota Camry, driven by 31-year-old Promise Jermeise Burnett of St. Petersburg, was traveling westbound approaching 33rd Street North.
At the intersection of 38th Avenue North and 33rd Street North, investigators say the Toyota attempted to make a left turn and entered the path of the motorcycle. The Kawasaki collided with the passenger side of the Toyota.
Police said Burnett fled the scene on foot with two children immediately following the crash, but returned approximately 30 to 40 minutes later. The children were treated for minor injuries at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Burnett suffered minor injuries and did not seek hospital treatment at the time.
Burnett was initially charged with leaving the scene of a crash, causing serious bodily injury. Following the death of Rosabal Fernandez, the charge was upgraded to leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
