A 15-year-old boy remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Friday morning while crossing a street in St. Petersburg.
According to police, officers responded at approximately 9:49 a.m. to the intersection of 9th Avenue North and 25th Street North following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian.
Investigators say a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on 9th Avenue North in the median lane approaching 25th Street North when it struck the teen, who was crossing the roadway in a marked crosswalk.
Police said the 15-year-old had activated the crosswalk lights and was proceeding across 9th Avenue North when the crash occurred.
The teen was transported to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The intersection was temporarily closed during the investigation but has since reopened.
The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
