Three victims, including two Dunedin residents, flown from crash in Manatee County involving a fatality

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Troopers continue to investigate a fatality crash that occurred on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at approximately 3:20 p.m.

A 57-year-old male from Bradenton, Florida, operated a pickup truck towing an RV westbound on State Road 70 near Saddlebag Trail. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the pickup truck, causing the RV to separate from the vehicle. The truck rotated, traveled in the eastbound lanes, and collided with a van.

The van was operated by an 80-year-old Dunedin man traveling eastbound on State Road 70. The 80-year-old driver and his 75-year-old female passenger were flown to Sarasota Memorial Hospital as trauma-alert patients and listed in serious condition.

The pickup truck driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The passenger, a 52-year-old female from Oakland Park, FL, also suffered severe injuries and was flown to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The RV traveled onto the north shoulder and collided with a tree.

The crash remains under investigation.
