Beginning Saturday, August 22, 2026, tolls will be electronically collected on the new Howard Frankland Bridge Express Lanes along I-275 across Old Tampa Bay.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, tolls in the express lanes will be collected through the SunPass Prepaid Toll Program. Only passenger vehicles, registered vanpools, and buses are permitted to use the I-275 Express Lanes.

Southbound motorists can enter the express lanes just south of the SR 60 interchange in Tampa. Drivers traveling from the St. Petersburg side can enter just beyond the 4th Street exit before crossing the bridge.

Once in the express lanes, motorists will travel across the Howard Frankland Bridge before merging back into the general-use lanes on either side of the bridge to continue on I-275.

The new express lanes provide a direct connection between Pinellas and Hillsborough counties and offer an additional travel option for thousands of Tampa Bay-area motorists.

Drivers are also being reminded of new speed limits along the corridor. The posted speed limit across the Howard Frankland Bridge is now 65 mph. The speed limit drops to 55 mph on either side of the bridge because of active construction work zones.

Motorists should slow down, remain alert, and watch for changing traffic patterns and construction activity.

Additional information about SunPass and the Howard Frankland Bridge project is available through SunPass and FDOT Tampa Bay.
