Thursday, January 30, 2014
Units from Largo Fire Rescue were dispatched to a traffic crash this evening shortly before 5pm. The crash occurred at the intersection of Ulmerton Road and 113th Street in Largo.
The crash involved a rescue vehicle from Sunstar Paramedics and a Mercury passenger vehicle. The Sunstar unit was in the process of responding emergency (lights and sirens) to a incident at the time of the collision.
Rob Smith, Director of Communications and Emergency Management for Sunstar Paramedics, confirmed that two individuals were transported to the hospital following the crash.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to Bayfront Medical center and no updates are available on their condition at this time. Extrication tools were required to safely remove this driver from the vehicle.
The paramedic passenger in the Sunstar unit was transported, treated and released from a local hospital.
The driver of the Sunstar unit was not injured in the collision and is currently on a “no drive” status at this time. Mr. Smith stated that this status change is both routine and standard procedure in these type incidents.
Largo Police Department continues their investigation into the traffic crash and has not responded to the request for additional information.
Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Largo Police Department, Sunstar Paramedics, and multiple units from Largo Fire Rescue were on-scene to assist.
All southbound lanes of 113th Street and westbound lanes of Ulmerton Road were closed due to the crash.
