Troopers investigate crash that killed bicyclist off Myrtle Avenue

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a crash that killed a bicyclist in unincorporated Clearwater nea Belleair Road. The crash occurred at approximately 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Myrtle Avenue S and Belleair Road.

A 21 year-old male operating a red BMW was traveling eastbound on Belleair Road approaching the intersection of South Myrtle Avenue.

An 81 year-old male bicyclist was traveling southbound on South Myrtle Avenue. At the intersection, the bicyclist failed to stop at a stop sign, entered the path of the BMW, and was subsequently struck by the vehicle.

The bicyclist was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and died from injuries suffered during the crash.
