Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate a crash that killed two people on US-19 near Royal Boulevard. The crash occurred at 5:58 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2019.
According to investigators, 84 year-old Diane Pires from Kingston, Massachusetts, was operating a 2013 Volvo T6 southbound on US-19 in the left turn only lane of Royal Boulevard.
A 56 year-old male Palm Harbor resident was operating his 2011 Audi A8 northbound on US-19 in the inside center lane approaching Royal Boulevard.
Troopers say Pires turned left into the path of the Audi. The Audi collided with the right side of the Volvo. The female passenger in the Volvo, 69 year-old Diana Rakauskas of Kingston, Massachusetts was killed instantly. Pires was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Mease Countyside where she died from her injuries.
The driver of the Audi was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
