Troopers investigate Hillsborough County crash leaving one dead and a Largo woman seriously injured

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are currently investigating a fatality crash that occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021.

A 59 year-old Largo woman was traveling southbound on the exit ramp from I-75 to Martin Luther King Jr Blvd in a sedan. A second vehicle, a pickup truck operated by a 26 year-old Texas resident, was traveling southbound on I-75 in the outside lane.

Troopers say that the Largo woman realized she was at the wrong exit and steered to the left and into the outside lane occupied by the pickup truck.

As a result, the front right of the pickup truck struck the left rear of the sedan.  The sedan rotated to the roadway shoulder and struck a highway sign support, then continued until colliding with a tree.  The driver of the pickup truck was able to stop his vehicle on the west shoulder.  Troopers say the pickup truck driver was not injured in the crash.

The driver of the sedan was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Transported to an area hospital, the passenger in sedan died from his injuries. The deceased passenger is only being identified as a 66 year-old male from Brandon.
