Troopers searching for driver involved in a hit-and-run fatal crash in Bradenton

The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a vehicle that struck a bicyclist in Bradenton, killing him and then leaving the scene.

FHP reports that on Friday, March 22, 2024, at about 9 p.m., a sedan was traveling east on State Road 70, on the inside (left) lane approaching 60th Street East (Caruso Road).

A 28-year-old Sarasota resident was riding a bicycle north on State Road 70, within the pedestrian crosswalk, attempting to cross the eastbound lane of State Road 70 from the south shoulder. The front left of the vehicle collided with the bicycle.

The impact separated the rider from the bicycle, causing him to come to rest on the median. Post-collision, the driver of the vehicle, described only as a red sedan, fled the scene. The bicyclist was rushed to Blake Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The FHP has impounded the suspected vehicle from a residence in Manatee County. The criminal investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol (*FHP) or Crime Stoppers
