Troopers Arrest Hit and Run Driver That Struck and Killed Bicyclist in Port Richey

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate the hit and run death of a bicyclist.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:38 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019, in the northbound lanes of US-19 at Holiday Hills Blvd.

Troopers say the vehicle involved, a blue 2004 Saturn Ion, was traveling northbound in the outside lane of US-19, north of Holiday Hills Boulevard.

The 43 year-old male bicyclist and New Port Richey resident was traveling eastbound across the northbound lanes of US-19 and entered the path of Saturn.

As a result, the Saturn collided with the bicyclist who suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Saturn fled the scene.

Following a Crime Stopper tip issued on February 19th, FHP Troopers arrived at 3822 Woodcock Drive in New Port Richey, located the suspect vehicle, and Somphone Phosy, age 43 of Largo, Florida, who was arrested in connection with the February 16th fatal hit and run traffic crash that claimed the life of John Mowry.

Anyone with information regarding the driver or the vehicle involved is asked to contact the FHP by calling 813-558-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS.
