Hurricane Idalia: Warnings Issued

The latest on road closures from FHP

Skyway Update: The Skyway Bridge has been reopened. The fishing piers and rest areas remain closed at this time.

Both directions of the Howard Frankland Bridge have been reopened.

The eastbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway remain closed at this time.

The Gandy Bridge is open.


St Pete-Clearwater International: PIE reopening at 3 pm as planned. Flights to resume Thursday, check with airlines for status.

Pinellas County Schools as 8:45 am

Pinellas County Schools is working closely with Pinellas County Emergency Management to monitor Hurricane Idalia and its impact to our region.

At this time, no decision has been made as to whether schools can reopen tomorrow. We will continue to monitor conditions and damage reports and make a determination late this afternoon.

The County is experiencing significant flooding in some areas that is predicted to worsen throughout the morning and afternoon.

The district will communicate the timeline for reopening schools immediately following the scheduled 5pm meeting of the County Emergency Management


PINELLAS COUNTY: Effective as of 6:30 a.m. on August 30, 2023, access to ALL barrier islands have been closed to citizens, including residents with permits. There is NO re-entry until further notice.

The Skyway Bridge remains closed with wind speeds between 50-60 MPH.

The northbound lanes of the Howard Frankland Bridge are closed due to storm surge and flooding. The southbound lanes of the Howard Frankland Bridge are now closed.

The eastbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway are closed due storm surge and flooding.

The Gandy Bridge is open as of this hour.

Everyone is encouraged to remain sheltered and stay off the highways at this time.
