Two men, 32-year-old Kevin Lassiter, and 26-year-old Troy Lassiter, Jr are both in custody following the St. Petersburg shooting death of 32-year-old Derrick Mims.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:39 p.m., on May 19th, 2023, when officers responded to a call of a person shot at the Mandalay on 4th Condominiums located at 11901 4th Street North.
Upon arrival, officers found Derrick D. Mims lying in the apartment complex’s parking lot, where he was shot multiple times. Five shell casings were located at the scene.
Mims was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was pronounced dead.
Kevin Lassiter is facing charges of 1st-degree murder, and Troy Lassiter, Jr, is facing charges of principal to murder in the 1st degree.
Detectives believe the victim was known to the suspects, and this was not a random act.
