Units from Largo Fire Rescue were dispatched to respond to a traffic incident Saturday evening shortly after 9PM. Arriving units began treating two or three patients, one of which was still laying in the roadway. Due to the patient’s condition, Bayflite was requested along with additional crews from Largo Fire Rescue and Sunstar to assist with patient care and establish a safe landing zone.
The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of Clearwater-Largo Road just past 8th Avenue South. The landing zone was established next to the Lowe’s Home Improvement store south of the crash scene near Ulmerton Road.
The male patient transported via Bayflite was very seriously injured. He had obvious head trauma and initial indications were that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
