Two Year-Old Child Dead After Being Left in Vehicle For 5 Hours in Brandon, Florida

At approximately 2:40 pm. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, Hillsborough deputies were called to Oak Park Shopping Center at the corner of W. Lumsden Road and Kings Ave in Brandon.

The call was in reference a child found locked in an unattended vehicle. Paramedics with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue were also called to the scene and transported the child to Brandon Regional Hospital where the child later died. Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were called to the scene and are now conducting an on going criminal investigation.

At this time, the following preliminary information has been released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The details of what took place is subject to change as the investigation continues;

Today at approximately 9:30 am, the victim’s half sister 21 year-old Fiorella Vanessa Silva-Tello, arrived for work at the BFF Kidz Child Care Center at 733 West Lumsden Road with her half-brother 2 year-old Jacob Manchego.  Silva-Tello went inside her place of employment and left Jacob unattended in the vehicle.

At approximately 2:30 pm, Silva-Tello returned to the vehicle and discovered the child unconscious. Silva-Tello removed the child from the vehicle and carried him to a dialysis center in the shopping center where first aid was administered. HCFR arrived and transported the child to the hospital where he later died.

Detectives are currently interviewing Silva-Tello and any other potential witnesses along with gathering any physical evidence. As of the time of this release, no charges have been filed pending further investigation and review by the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office.

During the course of the investigation, investigators will be reviewing the prior history of the child including any calls for service at the residence.

At this time, HCSO is not releasing any 911 calls or any surveillance video until detectives have had an opportunity to review the details for any evidentiary value.
