A family from South Carolina had their vehicle stolen after stopping at a Largo Wawa on Monday, July 8, 2019.
The family stopped at the gas pumps at the Wawa located at 8910 Ulmerton Rd to fuel the vehicle for their travels back to South Carolina.
Mom and Dad exited their vehicle, leaving their 7 year old boy inside. A subject enters the vehicle and flees the area eastbound on Ulmerton Road. Dad hopped into Grandpa’s vehicle attempting to catch up, but was not able to.
The subject ends up dropping the child off at a hotel in Pinellas Park, telling him to go inside and call his mother. The child is found unharmed.
Attempts to pinging a phone in the vehicle were unsuccessful, so mom gets on the “Gizmo” app and locates the GPS in her child’s watch that was still inside the vehicle.
The GPS location let to an apartment complex in Tampa located at 1701 Lois Ave N and the vehicle was recovered unoccupied by Tampa Police Department.
The subject, 33 year-old Adam Vachon, a transient from Largo, was seen getting off an elevator and was found sleeping in the entertainment room at the complex. He agreed to come back to Largo Police Department for an interview and was subsequently taken into custody and will be transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
Vachon has been charged with Kidnapping and Grand Theft Auto.
Police say he confessed to the crime.
