A woman suffered life-threatening injuries in what appears to be a domestic-related shooting outside in the 900 block of Main Street in Safety Harbor shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
Multiple first responders arrived and found the woman with a gunshot wound. Preliminary information indicates she was also runover by the fleeing suspect’s vehicle.
The woman was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released the 30-year-old woman’s identity.

The suspect, 40-year-old Christopher Dodge Smith, fled in a vehicle with a young child inside. Authorities later located the vehicle in the Tarpon Woods area (Valemoor Drive and Ridgemoor Blvd), where Smith surrendered to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies during a traffic stop. The child was not injured.
A large law enforcement presence remained at both locations as investigators processed the scenes, spoke with witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage from the area.
Smith was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and facing charges of Attempted Second Degree Murder and one count of Child Abuse.

The investigation continues.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will provide additional updates as information is released.
