Woman Dead in Overnight Crash on I-275 in St. Petersburg

27 year-old Kasey Gibson of St. Petersburg died in an overnight crash that occurred on I-275 at 38th Avenue N.  The crash occurred at approximately 3:37 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.

Malo Blackshear arrested for DUI Manslaughter

According to investigators from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), 45 year-old Malo Blackshear of St. Petersburg, Florida, was driving southbound on I-275 at a high rate of speed in a 2007 Mercedes Sedan. Just south of 38th Avenue N, Blackshear attempted to overtake and struck the rear of a 2001 Hyundai Sedan being driven by 23 year-old Nona Evans of St. Petersburg.

Evans’ passenger, Kasey Gibson, died at the scene.  Evans was treated for minor injuries at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

FHP charged Blackshear with DUI Manslaughter.

According to FHP, all the occupants were wearing seat-belts at the time of the crash.

Updated at 9 a.m. to reflect charges against Blackshear.

Update 1:30 p.m. to reflect the the deceased woman’s identify as Kasey Gibson.
