Wrong Way Driver Leads to Serious Injury Crash on I-275 in Pinellas

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continues to investigate a wrong way crash that seriously injured a Clearwater woman.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:17 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019.

According to troopers, 37 year-old Jessica Murphy of St. Petersburg was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-275 south of Gandy Blvd. Murphy was operating a 2017 Subaru Forester.

Priscilla Mouzon, age 24 of Clearwater, was operating a 2013 Buick Verano southbound on I-275.

As a result, the two vehicles collided and ended up on opposite shoulders of the roadway.

The Forester erupted into flames.

The southbound lanes remained closed until 4:45 a.m.

Troopers are unsure where or how Murphy began to travel in the wrong direction.

Mouzon and Murphy were transported to local hospitals for their injuries.

Murphy was arrested for DUI with serious injuries, Reckless Driving with serious injuries, and Driving in the wrong direction.
