Motorcyclist Seriously Injured on 4th Street Exit from I-275 in St. Petersburg

Emergency personnel were dispatched to a motorcycle crash on 4th Street near the entrance ramp from I-275. The crash occurred at about 5:40 PM on Tuesday, January 31, 2017.

According to St. Petersburg Police investigators, a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by 35 year-old Nicholas Ryan Tobey of Tampa was southbound on Interstate 275, exiting onto 4th Street North. Tobey was at the rear of a group of 4-5 vehicles and was traveling in the outside lane.

A pickup truck with a boat trailer, also southbound on 4th Street in the outside lane, slowed to turn, and the vehicle in front of Tobey changed lanes. Tobey braked to slow down, but lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle.

Tobey was wearing a helmet, but was seriously injured. He was transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg in critical condition but later upgraded to serious condition.
