14 Year-old Driver Now Facing Criminal Charges After 15 Year-old Friend Died From Crash in November

The passenger in a stolen vehicle, 15 year-old Alijah Armstead, died on Sunday, December 31, 2017.

The single vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:23 a.m. in theĀ 4000 Block of 11th Avenue South on November 19th, 2017.

Armstead was a passenger in a white Chevrolet Camaro, when the driver, 14-year-old Myles Abbott lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed, westbound on 11th Avenue South and crashed into a large tree.

Due to the extensive damage, both Abbott and Armstead had to be extricated from the vehicle by St Petersburg Fire Rescue. They were both transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg, Abbott with serious injuries and Armstead with life threatening injuries.

During the course of the investigation of the crash it was discovered that the Camaro was reported stolen.

At this time criminal charges are pending further investigation.
