Treasure Island Man Accused of Battering and Holding His Wife Against Her Will

Treasure Island police arrested 76 year-old Kenneth Wozny after arriving at his home this morning conducting a welfare check.

At approximately 7:27 a.m., Treasure Island Police responded to the 100 block of Sun Isle Circle after receiving a call that a 75 year-old woman was battered by her husband.  The victim’s daughter attempted phone contact with the victim/mother and was told by her stepfather, Mr. Wozny, that her mother “was gone.”

The previous night, the victim reportedly called a friend and stated she was battered by her husband.

Upon police arrival, Wozny angrily exited the residence and ordered police off his property and refused to allow officers in to check on his wife.

After multiple attempts to speak with Wozny and the victim, and sufficient reason to believe the victim was inside the residence and in danger, officers made entry into the lower level of the unit.

Wozny then angrily exited again yelling at officers to “shoot me” multiple times.  Officers were able to detain Wozny on the stairwell where he physically resisted officers, attempting to push them down the stairs.

Wozny was taken into custody and victim was found severely battered inside the residence. She reported she was held against her will in the bedroom for the previous three days. He reportedly shoved her to the ground and “strangled” her.  The victim reported that Wozny took her phone, car keys and believed he was going to kill her.  She reported him as saying, “I’m going to kill you” and “I want you dead.”  He would not allow her to leave the bedroom to eat or shower.  His wife is being treated for a couple spinal fractures, fractured pelvis, and other injuries to her face, neck, both arms, and both legs.

Wazny was charged with Felony Domestic Battery by Stangulation, Battery on the Elderly, False Imprisonment/Tampering with a Witness and Resisting Arrest with Violence.
