Pinellas Deputies respond to a shooting then encounter the suspect vehicle leading to a pursuit
Shortly before 10 pm this evening, shots rang out near the intersection of Pelican Lane and Jacaranda Avenue in Unincorporated Seminole. Emergency crews were already working in the area of Starkey Road and Flamevine Ave due to a traffic crash with injuries (see story here). Shots were heard and Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of the shots fired.
One subject with a gunshot wound was located, treated and transported to a local hospital as a trauma alert by Sunstar. The subject experienced non-life threatening injuries according to the most recent update from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. They state that the subject was shot while in the front yard of the residence.
A Pinellas County Deputy located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle near 66th Street and 62nd Ave. The Deputy attempted a traffic stop once backup units were in the area. The driver fled and a pursuit ensued with speeds that reached 100 mph. Deputies say the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered a ditch at the south side of 62nd Avenue near 49th Street. The vehicle also struck a power pole which severed the pole. Two suspects are in custody and one suspect fled on foot. The driver of the vehicle was transported to Bayfront Medical Center for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries (broken wrist). One of the passengers was also transported to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of a serious injuries. The second passenger fled on foot.
Pinellas County Deputies along with the eagle and K-9 continued to search for the remaining suspect without success. A search continues for that third suspect.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) was on scene.
The investigation continues.
