This morning about 12:50 am crews from Seminole Fire Rescue, Madeira Beach Fire Department, Sunstar and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of Duhme Rd and the Tom Stuart Causeway.
Crews arriving on scene declared the vehicle’s occupant to be a trauma alert and initiated an extrication operation to remove him from the vehicle. In addition, Bayflite and additional units were dispatched. The patient was extricated just as Bayflite lifted and the decision was made to transport the patient via ground in a Sunstar Unit and Bayflite was cancelled.
The vehicle crash occurred at Madeira Beach Middle Fundamental School which resulted in significant damage being done to the exterior of the building.
According to deputies, 37 year-old Michael Roy of St. Petersburg, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet pick-up truck travelling southbound on Duhme Road approaching Tom Stuart Causeway. The vehicle proceeded straight through the intersection and continued southbound through the school parking lot striking the guardrail and school. The crash caused exterior and interior damage to the school.
Roy sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Deputies believe alcohol may be a factor in the crash but the investigation into the specific circumstances of the crash continues.
