Armed suspect killed in deputy involved shooting

On Monday, Oct. 4th, at approximately 11:17 p.m. the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Taskforce was activated in reference to an incident at 3949 38th St N. The shooting occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m.

Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies were there in an effort to arrest 50 year-old Chad Allen Jenkins on Probable Cause for Child Abuse (Felony) and Domestic Battery (Misdemeanor) established from an earlier investigation. The earlier investigation also revealed that Jenkins was known to be armed with a firearm.

Deputies approached the residence where they saw Jenkins entering a vehicle. Deputies initiated contact with the suspect who had a firearm in his hand.

Two deputies fired their weapons and Jenkins sustained gunshot wounds that resulted in his death.

No deputies were hurt.

The St. Petersburg Police Department is leading this investigation as a member of the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigation Taskforce.
