Arrest Made In Fatal Hit And Run Crash In Madeira Beach
This morning, Cristen Smith, Public Information Officer for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office announced an arrest in May’s fatal hit and run crash.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:42 AM on Friday, May 8, 2015, on Gulf Boulevard near 129th Avenue in Madeira Beach.
This morning, 22 year-old Sterling Hubbard of St. Petersburg was arrested at a relative’s home in Hernando County, Florida

According to deputies, the skateboarder, 20 year-old Emma M. Keown of Clermont, Florida was traveling northbound on Gulf Boulevard when she was struck from behind by a truck. The suspected driver of the truck, Sterling Hubbard, stopped for a brief moment before continuing to travel northbound on Gulf Blvd. Keown was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Witnesses of the crash described the driver of the Black Dodge Ram Pickup Truck as a white male, possibly in his late 20’s with dark bushy hair. In addition, it was noted that the truck had a lit pizza delivery sign on its roof. Later that day, deputies were able to locate what is believed to be Hubbard’s vehicle, a black Dodge Ram Pickup truck, parked unattended at 13707 Plymouth Street in Madeira Beach. A search warrant was obtained and deputies were able to take possession of the vehicle for further processing of evidence.
Hubbard has been charged with a 1st degree felony, Leaving The Scene Of An Accident Involving Death and was booked into the Hernando County Jail.
Below are screenshots of Hubbard’s Facebook page archived on May 10, 2015. Â The Facebook page has since been removed.

A year later, and we are still following Emma’s case through the court system…it is an incredibly long and tedious process. Sterling Hubbard bonded out of jail after he was arrested for the hit and run (over a month later)….people assume he has been in jail this whole time. He has not. For someone claiming to be of indigent status, he has bonded out plenty of times. He continues to have no consequences or accountability for his actions. Praying that changes.
We love and miss you incredibly, Emma.
We continue to follow this sad story and hopefully he will be held accountable for his actions in a few months. Stay strong.
thank you…that means a lot to her family and friends.
def not indigent arrested at grand mas in hernando-family $$ connected to Pinellas politicians, judges, D.A. etc…hopefully held accountable
