Bicyclist seriously injured when motorist failed to yield in a St. Petersburg crosswalk

Investigators from the St. Petersburg Police Department are currently on-scene of serious injury crash involving a bicyclist.

The call for service occurred at approximately 4:39 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30 2022 at the intersection of 5th Avenue N and 25th Street.

Police say that a motorist was operating a gray 2013 Chevrolet Equinox eastbound in
the curb lane of 5th Avenue North. At the same time, a 24 year old man was riding his bicycle southbound in a marked crosswalk on the west side of the intersection of 5th Avenue North and 25th Street North.

The driver of the Equinox failed to stop for the flashing signal and struck the victim with the vehicle.

The victim was transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg with serious injuries. The driver was not injured and stayed on scene to speak with officers.

The investigation is still on going.
