Body of Apollo Beach Man Found This Morning Near Courtney Campbell Causeway Following Boating Incident
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation (FWC) is investigating a fatal boating accident.
On August 20, 2017 at approximately 9:00 p.m. an unmanned personal watercraft (PWC) was observed by Tow Boat US near the Courtney Campbell Causeway in Tampa Bay.
A search was conducted overnight by boat and air support for the missing PWC operator. Unfortunately, at approximately 8:00 a.m. the body of the missing PWC operator, 61 year-old Jose Vazquez of Apollo Beach, was found in shallow water south of the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
FWC is the lead agency on this incident, with assistance from the United States Coast Guard, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and Tampa Police Department.
The accident investigation is ongoing.
