Clearwater Police investigating fatality crash off N Bayshore Blvd

Officers from Clearwater Police Department along with firefighters from Clearwater Fire & Rescue and Safety Harbor Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle crash at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

The crash occurred on N Bayshore Bouelvard near San Mateo Street in Clearwater.

Officers say that the vehicle, a 2010 Volkswagon, went out of control, left the roadway and crashed into multiple trees. One person was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital with life threatening injuries. That person died from their injuries. Two others were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation.

The driver of the 2010 Volkswagen, 32 year-old Winston Norman of Safety Harbor, was booked in to the Pinellas County Jail on multiple charges after being treated and released at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. He is facing charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and driving with a license suspended or revoked involving death.

Investigators say that Winston was headed north at a high speed when he lost control, left the road and hit several trees.

The passenger who died was a 42-year-old male. His name will not be released until relatives are notified.

The other passenger who was injured was a 33 year-old man who was treated and later released at Bayfront Health.

This is Norman’s third DUI arrrest.

Bayshore will be closed for several hours as the investigation is conducted.
