Clearwater Police investigating shooting at Chick-fil-A, suspect in custody

Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue are currently onscene of a shooting that occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021.

The shooting occurred at Chick-fil-A located at 2516 Gulf to Bay Boulevard.

Officers are investigating the details of the shooting which stemmed from an altercation. Fire rescue crews arrived to treat one victim with non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect has been identified as 20 year-old Jack Colston of Clearwater. According to arrest documentation, Colston located the victim and the victim’s twin brother at the Chick-fil-A. A fight ensured when Colston claimed the victim’s brother owed him $4000. During the fight, Colston shot the victim with a .45 caliber handgun.

The incident was recorded on closed circuit video from Chick-fil-A. He has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, shooting within an occupied building and carrying a concealed firearm.

The victim, 20 year-old Victor Marquez, remains in stable condition at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. The argument and subsequent shooting appears to have been related a dispute over money, according to police.
