Clearwater Police Investigating Following a Crash Killing a Motorcyclist on the Memorial Causeway
Crews from Clearwater Police and Fire Rescue responded to reports of a vehicle crash at approximately 8:48 a.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2018.
The crash between a 2001 Suzuki and a 2012 Lexus RX350 SUV occurred on the Memorial Causeway at Island Way in Clearwater.
Bayflite, a medical helicopter, responded to transport 29 year-old Mahmoud Sousi of Clearwater to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with very serious injuries.
On Wednesday, August 15, 2018, Clearwater Police reported that Sousi died Monday night from his injuries.Â
The westbound lanes reopened once Bayflite departed the scene, however, continued delays were experienced in the area. One eastbound lane reopened quickly but other lanes were closed for several hours.
Preliminary information indicates that Sousi was traveling westbound and collided with a Lexus SUV driven by 85 year-old Stanley Frederico of Clearwater. Frederico was attempting to make a left turn from the eastbound lanes of the Causeway to go north on Island Way.
Frederico refused medical treatment at the scene.
The investigation continues and additional information will be posted here at IONTB.COM when available.
