Posted: August 7, 2015 – 9:45PM

At approximately 5:56 PM on Friday, August 7, 2015, a two vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of Belcher Road and Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. The crash involved a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Child Protection Investigator (CPI). The crash investigation was conducted by the PCSO Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.).

According to investigators, Child Protection Investigator, Chelsea Flint was traveling eastbound on Gulf to Bay in her agency issued 2010 Ford Fusion. At the same time, Stella McEwen, the driver of a 2012 Kia Soul was traveling westbound on Gulf to Bay, facing a flashing yellow light, and made a left turn in the path of CPI Flint.

CPI Flint was unable to avoid the collision and crashed into the passenger side of the Kia Soul.

CPI Flint was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries according to a press release from Cristen Smith, Public Information Officer.

The driver of the Kia Soul, identified as 23-year-old Stella McEwen, was not injured in the crash.

McEwen was issued a citation for turning left in front of oncoming traffic.

Alcohol nor drug impairment appear to be factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
