Crash in Sarasota leaves 4 motorcyclists seriously injured, 1 dead

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate after a deadly crash on I-75 near Fruitville Road in Sarasota.

Multiple Harley Davidson motorcycles were traveling southbound on Interstate 75 on the Fruitville Road Overpass, occupying the outside travel lane at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.

A 2007 Semi Tractor Trailer was traveling southbound approaching the Fruitville Road Overpass, occupying the center travel lane.

David Boland, age 56 of Englewood, lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected from the motorcycle and struck the right side of trailer tire.

This incident led to the other motorcyclists, to lose control of their respective vehicles, and ejected from those motorcycles.

Boland was pronounced deceased on scene by Sarasota County E.M.S.

The other motorcyclists were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Michael Houck (40 years-old of Sarasota)
Donald Kidwell (51 years-old of Venice)
David Mashia (50 years-old of Venice)

The 49 year-old driver of the semi tractor trailer was not injured in the incident.

The roadway reopened at approximately 2:30 a.m.
